Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has strongly criticized the city’s E-Challan system, calling it an act of “organized loot” against the citizens of Karachi. He stated that the system, instead of ensuring discipline on roads, has become a source of financial burden for commuters.
Citizens Face Unfair Penalties
According to the JI leader, thousands of Karachi residents have received unjustified challans despite following traffic rules. He claimed that faulty cameras, poor coordination, and lack of transparency have made the process unreliable and frustrating. Many citizens reportedly received multiple challans for the same violation or even for vehicles they no longer own.
Demand for Transparency and Accountability
Hafiz Naeem demanded that the Sindh government review the entire E-Challan mechanism. He urged authorities to make traffic enforcement fair and transparent rather than using it as a means of revenue generation. He added that Karachi’s residents are already struggling with inflation, fuel price hikes, and poor infrastructure, and such unfair penalties only worsen their hardships.
Call for Public-Friendly Reforms
The JI Karachi Chief emphasized that technology should be used to facilitate people, not exploit them. He suggested that the government must introduce a public-friendly traffic management system that educates drivers instead of punishing them unnecessarily. He also announced that his party will raise this issue at the provincial assembly level and organize awareness campaigns across the city.
Moving Forward
The controversy over the E-Challan system has reignited public debate on accountability and fair governance in Karachi. Many citizens have joined the call for reforms, demanding transparency in the use of smart cameras and digital monitoring. Whether the government will address these growing concerns remains to be seen.
