KMC Clarifies ‘No Approval’ for Resolution Against Heavy E-Challans | Karachi News

KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has officially clarified that it did not approve any resolution against the city’s ongoing heavy e-challan system, following public confusion and circulating reports on social media.

KMC Denies Passing Resolution

KMC spokesperson Ali Hasan stated that the reports suggesting the City Council opposed the e-challan system are incorrect. He explained that no formal proposal was approved or recorded during any official session.

He emphasized that the e-challan system plays a vital role in promoting discipline among drivers and ensuring traffic flow in Karachi. The KMC, he said, continues to support lawful initiatives aimed at maintaining road safety and improving traffic management.

Public Reaction and Clarification

The rumors about the supposed resolution gained attention after a few council members raised concerns regarding the high penalty amounts. However, the KMC spokesperson clarified that individual opinions do not represent the council’s official stance.

He further added, “Our objective is to help Karachi’s citizens follow traffic laws, not to burden them. But at the same time, safety cannot be compromised.” The statement aimed to calm public confusion and reaffirm the city’s commitment to organized urban governance.

E-Challan System’s Purpose

Karachi’s e-challan system, jointly implemented by the Traffic Police and the Excise Department, uses advanced cameras and digital monitoring tools. These track violations such as speeding, red-light jumping, and driving without seat belts.

The fines collected are then directed toward road safety projects and traffic signal upgrades, which help improve the city’s overall infrastructure. By integrating technology, the system reduces corruption and encourages fair enforcement across all areas.

KMC’s Future Plans

The KMC plans to expand digital systems in collaboration with Sindh Police and other civic departments. The focus remains on transparency, efficiency, and public convenience.

Officials confirmed that more awareness campaigns will soon be launched to educate citizens on traffic rules and e-challan payment procedures. They added that public cooperation can make Karachi’s roads safer for everyone.
