KARACHI: The Sindh Police have issued 26,609 e-challans for various traffic violations across Karachi this month, marking a significant step toward enforcing road safety and modernizing traffic management. Authorities say the initiative aims to curb reckless driving and enhance compliance with city traffic regulations.
E-Challan Initiative
Traffic police deployed automated e-challan systems at key intersections, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, University Road, and Korangi Road. The system identifies violations such as over-speeding, signal jumping, illegal parking, and driving without proper documentation.
Moreover, authorities stated that e-challans provide real-time monitoring, reduce human error, and ensure accountability. Drivers receive instant notifications on their mobile phones, allowing them to pay fines online without visiting police stations.
Impact on Road Safety
Officials believe the widespread implementation of e-challans has led to better traffic discipline in Karachi. “The use of technology allows us to monitor traffic violations more efficiently,” said DIG Traffic Karachi, Ahmed Nawaz.
Additionally, the e-challan system encourages responsible driving by reminding motorists of penalties for offenses. Citizens have reported fewer accidents on major routes since the system’s introduction, indicating a positive impact on road safety.
Public Awareness and Compliance
Sindh Police are also conducting awareness campaigns to educate drivers about traffic rules and the e-challan system. Informational banners, social media posts, and radio messages are being used to reach a wider audience.
Authorities have urged vehicle owners to update their registration details and ensure compliance with traffic regulations to avoid fines. Repeat offenders may face heavier penalties or vehicle suspension.
Looking Ahead
The Sindh Police plan to expand the e-challan system to cover smaller roads and suburban areas across Karachi. Officials aim to integrate advanced analytics to track traffic patterns and reduce congestion further.
This step reflects Karachi’s commitment to modern traffic management and the use of technology to enhance citizen safety. With continued enforcement and public cooperation, the city hopes to reduce accidents and maintain smoother traffic flow.
